Willy’s Web 2.0 Widget World
I’m online all day, every day, as a must for my profession. And it has been that way since 1994 when I started my first Web development company, furthered by grad and law school, and then a . I like to think of myself as an early adopter, and leading edge (if not bleeding edge) technology enthusiast, and one who is in the know concerning all things Internet and Web related. But the fact is, I’m way behind the curve on large chunks of technology out there. Or better put, I’m very inefficient at using some of the newer technologies to improve my life, instead of simply entertain and wow me.
Take Google’s Desktop. I’m a Google (SE and Co) fan, but for obvious security reasons, I was a late adopter of Google Desktop. But a few months ago I broke down and installed the app on both my work desktop and my personal laptop. And low and behold, three months alter and I simply don;’t know how I lived a single second with out it. This is what computing should be like. And now as I move on, I really honing my skills at creating a desktop dashboard environment that displays, pushes, the information I most need to run my personal and professional life.
Then came some advice from a trusted technology guru friend to explore Google’s other offerings in more detail. I have been using GMail, Google Talk, Google Calendars, Google Docs, Google AdWords and AdSense, Google News, and other features for a long time - some from the day there were launched. But I had shied away from utilizing Google’s personal homepage (portal) tool until last week. And now I’m totally hooked. It’s like smack for geeks, or that stuff Neo was pushing on the first Matrix. All I know is I can’t seem to get enough. And bless all of you wonderful human beings who have written such beautiful little Widgets for my Web 2.0 world.
cheers,
Willy
